Climate of Houston

Summary

Hey there! So, did you know Houston's climate is categorized as a humid subtropical one, with a little tropical flavor? The summer heat here can be pretty steamy, with August usually scorching at around 95°F (35°C). On the flip side, January is our chilliest month, averaging at a cool 63°F (17°C). As for rain, we get approximately 49.77 inches (1,264 mm) annually, with showers pretty much evenly distributed throughout the year, but don't be surprised if there are some dry spells. Houston's weather can be a real bad hair day, especially during our monsoon season, which runs from May to October, and that's when the flooding tends to happen most. We do have our fair share of stormy days too. Sometimes, supercell thunderstorms roll in and drop tornadoes, usually in the spring. And let's not forget about our tropical cyclones that show up during hurricane season. They can dump a ton of rain and cause quite a ruckus in the city. The last time we had a hurricane was Hurricane Beryl in 2024. Stay dry, my friend!
